About the North Wake Gallery

The North Wake Gallery was established in Spring of 2018. The physical venue, titled the NW Gallery of Contemporary Art, was created as a PBL project in which a group of six students were hired as Gallery Assistants and taught how to curate and advertise a professional-level exhibition. The exhibition launched this club project, which now acts as a career development opportunity through the Jr. Curator Club.

All grade levels are eligible to apply to work as a Gallery Assistant. Students who participate will experience first-hand what it’s like to work in a fine arts gallery and will learn how to curate a digital archive. Those who are actively involved in this club project will have the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to pursue a job in career-related fields.

The artwork exhibited within the North Wake Gallery regularly changes. Teachers, and persons within the community, are encouraged to utilize the featured exhibitions and gallery receptions as an opportunity to collaborate for cross-curricular lessons and events. There are two featured exhibitions and gallery receptions per year: one within the NW Digital Archive, and one within the NW Gallery of Contemporary Art.
